Pieces printed on coated materials that the client wishes to have scored, must be laminated (at least single-sided) to be protected against cracking on scores.

Thick cards (up to 0.5 mm) are made of two or more thinner cards glued together. Due to uneven drying in a pile sheets might not be flat (2–3 mm deviation), which can be noticeable in A4 and larger printed pieces.
Green card is a single-side coated card printed with 4/0 CMYK. Available thickness: 500 gsm, 850 gsm, 1200 gsm. It is made of thinner layers of recycled card glued together, that is why it can have small patterns visible at its edges.
During plotter trimming, the cutting blade stretches the cardboard, leaving the edges slightly swollen. Swelling of the edges is more prominent with the decreasing radius of the cutting curvature. Because swelling causes the toner to chip off slightly, especially on dark solids, it is recommended to have the printed pieces laminated, at least on one side. |
