Sizes | Final Trim Size | The final trim size is determined by the trim line. | Full Bleed Size | The artwork must contain two matching files: one file containing graphics plus the required bleed, and the second file with trim lines and score marks. The client prepares artwork for a single printed piece. | Bleed | The artwork area that goes beyond the trim lines/score marks The size of the bleed should be 3 mm on each side. | Single printed piece |
- the printed piece can be of any shape;
- important elements should be placed at least 3 mm from the designed trim line;
- do not design frames, borders, etc. near the cut line (leave at least 5 mm). It is essential to allow some leeway for trim movement, otherwise the printed pieces may not look aesthetically pleasing.
| Trimming and scoring template | - Match the trim lines and score marks (template) with the graphics artwork and save it in a separate file.
- Design the trim lines as black hairlines (100% K). The score marks should be yellow (100% Y).
- Trim line curves should not have a radius smaller than:
- 1.5 mm - for self-adhesive films
- 2 mm - for cards thinner than 0.4 mm and decorative paper
- 3 mm - for cards thicker than 0.4 mm - Objects cropped inside the printed piece should be at least 5 mm away from the external trim line. Trimming tolerance is ±1 mm.
- Trim lines of a single printed piece should consist of a single closed curve.
- Considering the time needed for trimming, use of curves instead of sharp vertices in the artwork is recommended, where possible.
- Do not multiply the number of vertices (nodes) to more than what is necessary for curve delineation, as it slows down plotter performance.
- Trim lines and score marks in the artwork should be duplicated and cannot overlap.
- Objects cropped out of the printed piece cannot be too small or too intricate. If the intricacy of the curve causes excessively slow plotter operation or even does not permit the printed piece to be trimmed, we reserve the right to refuse such a job.
If, due to the complexity of shape or non-optimal preparation of a file, the plotter operation time increases significantly, D&D reserves the right to change the price. The client will be informed of this before the job is carried out. |
